ggzilla
Main symptom/complaint of the driver was bad pinging going up hills. Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
Stuck at FULL advance...springs broken??? Or disconnected, BEYOND DIRTY. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Springs are broken. Perhaps because of corrosion, it's a guess. Beware of used matchbox distributors. The Matchbox is the only part that's almost always good. The wires were severely corroded and the ends broke right off Comparison with normal mechanical advance This is typical for Matchbox type: broken ball bearing races Quote Link to comment
68Datsun510
How the HELL does this get this badly corroded? Someone use hydrochloric acid for engine degreaser? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
HOLY crap. I bet that thing was idling like a sonovabitch at full advance. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Don't know what caused the corrosion. But all the matchboxes I have looked at have broken ball bearing races -- even the ones that look real clean. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
This is why Atom and Phil swap the mechanical advances with the earlier remote ignitor dizzys. Quote Link to comment
Boaty
O.O Thing looks like it went on an ocean-floor tour for 30 years! I guess old cars have their woes, too! Quote Link to comment
