521 BIT electrical bullet

Driving my71 521 truck, shift into third, and she just stopped running. I pull over and notice smoke coming from under my glove box. I reach down to check for fire, burn my fingers on hot wires. Reach over to take out my key and smokes coming from under my ignition. Jump out afraid my babys going to burn to the ground. Luckily she didn't. But I'm planning a swap and wanted some input. I'm leaning toward the GA16E or GA16DE

Sounds difficult to figure out or fab a RWD trans that will mount up...
