Nelsontr
She made it to Maupin and back! Only had a little bit of a struggle getting over Mt. Hood. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nelsontr
She has been idling really high (13-1400 rpm) since the last time I did a lot of poking around under the hood looking for a different problem. (i guess in my flurry of checks and changes included the carb adjust screws). Yesterday, i finally got fed up enough with the symptoms i could notice to make a change... after lowering the rpm to around 1k -1100, i am amazed at the difference in the drive. Its crazy the changes that three twists of a screwdriver can make... It seems like all the fixes that really made a big difference in this build/restore are things that are so easy that i am kicking myself for not having done them sooner... if you look through this thread, im sure i said simular things about: checking the spark plug on the cylinder that wasn't firing and checking the idler arm bushings (steering). Some other, long over-due, recent changes have included a thermostat swap (old one was leaking wax and stuck open), did a full oil cange/topped off the trans. and diff. Also, i bought a new radiator to swap in (waiting like a week on shipping), but when i do the swap im going to do a home flush of the coolant passages. Quote Link to comment
Nelsontr
Checked the book and it said idle should be around 650 to 700 rpm so that happened today. Quote Link to comment

Nelsontr
So when i made my trip out to Maupin, there were some over heating issues getting over Mt. Hood... I decided it was finally time to put some money down on a new radiator. It showed up on tuesday and i put it in the car that night: She ran great for the test drive and on the way into work, but when i went out on my break to snap a couple of pics in the day light... i noticed the floor boards of the passenger side had antifreeze dripping down from under the dash... i had just replaced the hose that runs through the firewall on that side so i was really curious when i started my investigation. I found a two inch chunk of hose that connects to ends that basically touch together... after minimal dis-assembly (sans the learning curve), i got the POS out I will almost certainly have nightmares about these damn hose clamps, they are the agony of every repair venture for me. with some finessing, i got the new chunk of hose in place, here is a pic of it with the other hose i have recently replaced also connected. Nelsontr
it wasn't easy, but thankfully i didn't have to take the whole heater/blower out. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
does the core just slide out like in a 620? Quote Link to comment
Nelsontr
I dunno how it would compare to a 620, but i didn't find anything that slid out easy. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
ill have to take a look next time we wrench Quote Link to comment

COOCHaDAMus
I have been debating what i would like to do with the backseat... if i should buy a seat and have the ability to cram some people in there or should i make it hella nice for my dog (as she would be the one to use it the most). When i bought the car, she had nothing in the backseat area except for a few engine and drive train parts. i cleaned her up and put in the trunk separation plywood. For a long while i was driving around like this, with some memory foam cut-outs for comfort or fragile transportation. i found a dog bed that came with a couple plastic clips that would allow you to fold it in half and have it stay that way. this got me thinking about what i could do with these clips to secure the dog bed in the back of the car. while contemplating these little clips that came on the bed, i found these huge over-kill clips that i needed to incorporate i was lucky enough to have my girlfriends mother agree to sew these huge clips securely to the new dog bed. so here is my process for making a nice ass dog bed in your backseat... stripped out everything in the way made rigid Packing Foam cut-outs to level out the bumps in the seat when the foam was in place i could find the proper spot to mount the straps the clips kinda help hold the foam in place then i put the memory foam back in as a backrest the bed clips in place nicely, with plenty of room for adjustment. and after the bed is upholstered with the dogs blanket... ... its finally ready for her to check it out I think she likes it. gotta make ya road dog comfy 1 Quote Link to comment
