mr928
So my 1970 521 is showing 18 volts at the battery all of a sudden. Actually what got my attention was the smell of the battery cooking itself. The voltage regulator looks like brand new. Is there a way to test them? Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Getting 18 volts at the battery is a voltage regulator test. It failed. Check the grounds, between the voltage regulator and the alternator frame before you condemn the voltage regulator. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I go with the solid state ones now myself plus they are cheaper. The old Jap ones were adjustable but i never figured it out. I alwasy had spare regs. all I can say if it says Made in USA(mechanical) on it its a Echlin brand sold thru Napa and they suck. They dont last long at all. 2 years for me The Wells USA solid state one sold thru Carquests and others is OK. I use them Quote Link to comment
