squatches
i recently got a 78 280z and i cant figure out the problem im having with it. It will crank and run fine for a few minutes, then while driving or idling it will start to die out and if you keep the gas pedal all the way down its like the engine is bogging bad and trying to die. let off of the pedal completly and it dies out sometimes and sometimes it will shudder and run rough then return to normal idle. the car has an l28 with a crane cam, crane cam fire ball coil with the fire ball adapter box, msd sparkplug wires. and ive done a tuneup on it and cleaned the fuel lines and still the problems return. any help is greatly appreciated, thanks Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Do a fuel pump volume test. It take no special equipment except a watch. A partially blocked fuel filter will cause these symptoms. If it's more than a 12,000 miles old you may want to just replace it. Quote Link to comment

Ratty260z
fuel injection or carbs? the stock fuel injection can not handle a bigger cam at all check out the FAQ section on hybridz.org there are a few stickies that explain it. basically the stock ecu can't compensate for the added fuel and air the bigger cam needs. Znote
Just a guess!!! Check head temp sensor for corrosion. It's on thermostat housing. It regulates the mixture according to temperature. Bad connection makes you run rich. As car warms it's resistance drops leaning out mixture. Other possibility are coil and Ecuador connector plug. Be methodical and eliminate each possibility 1 at a time. Z Quote Link to comment
NiiChan GT-R
...My bet is TPS, or AFM in need of tweaking... Make certain that everything is clean and adjusted between those two. Quote Link to comment

jkeese01
Add a Fram G3 filter inline between the tank and fuel pump. The filter is clear plastic, so great monitor to see if your fuel supply is clean. Will keep rust out of the fuel pump and the filters are only about $3.00. datzenmike
The contact wears a track in the carbon coating and there are intermittent gaps which produce a false air mass reading thatconfuses the ECU. Sealick (Doug) has messed with this. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yep. It could be caused by many things. Squatches, have you tested the fuel pump yet? Changing the filters and pump is not the same as testing the overall volume and the pressure.. Then again it could be the airflow meter. Rather than just replace it, inspect it to see if it is damaged as in Mike's photo. Quote Link to comment
