Dr. Scagpoople
So the thermostat adaptor of my L20B has failed. Does any other engine's adaptor work for the L20B? It looks like the Z cars adaptor kind of looks like the L20B's inlet with the square shape. The parts houses look at me like I'm from another planet when I go in with the book and show them what I need. Ebay only has z car parts. I'm at a loss. Quote Link to comment
H5WAGON
Yes the housing's are the same......any L-series will work.....some have 3 bolts to hold the water neck on but, but yes it will work. Look in parts for sale...or post a wanted ad. Quote Link to comment
Dr. Scagpoople
I called the parts house with a ten year, 7 model search. Luckily it was my friend that answered the phone, haha, and he still was a bit confused I had such a large search. Hopefully this turns something up. There are a lot more 510's in this area than any other Datsuns so hopefully I get a call back. Thanks for your help, H5wagon. Does anyone else know if there is a broader application of adaptors that will work or is it just the L-series? Any aftermarket? Also, are there any conversions that can be done to move the thermostat and change that adaptor to in inlet? Quote Link to comment
jefe de jefes
Do you have a picture of your actual housing? Quote Link to comment
H5WAGON
I doubt they will have at a parts store. Nissan dealer..$$ Wrecking yard on the cheap. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Calling it a thermostat housing will help a lot more. It's actually an outlet more than an inlet so confusion rains if you say the former. You can use the three bolt type but it will have to include the three bolt top, or outlet. Quote Link to comment

The Nissan manual calls it a thermostat housing. It shows a single, two piece unit with upper inlet and lower adaptor to engine. I guess Nissan is wrong then? Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Think of it this way, it is the outlet to the radiator. The inlet is on the other side of the motor where the lower radiator hose connects. We think of it this way as it is the way of coolant flow. Im sure there are a few guys here with extra lower housings around. Maybe a wanted ad... Quote Link to comment
