primo74620
I have a 74' 620 and when I turn the engine off , the engine seems to keep running and spudders for a few seconds. Any ideas on what is causing this?????? It is annoying!!!!! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's called run on or dieseling. Just like a diesel, the motor is able to ignite the idle mixture just from the heat of compression without the need of the ignition. Things that cause it or make it worse are Incorrect spark plug heat range. Tip gets too hot and becomes an ignition point. Engine modified with higher compression. Compression concentrates heat as well. Carb running too rich, or choke not shutting off. Combustion chamber carbons up and gets glowing hot and becomes an ignition point. Carb idle too high. Provides even more fuel and air making dieseling even worse. Engine running hot, coolant level low. Running cheap gas with poor octane rating. Try a different brand or middle premium. Other things to try: If automatic.... shut off in drive to stall engine and then place in park. If standard... hold brake and lift clutch lightly to load engine and then turn ignition off to stall it quicker. Quote Link to comment
