Su carb question

I've tried to search the forum but havent come up with anything that looks like it answers my question.

 

I know these are SU's but why are the floats on the inside? all the pictures I've seen have the floats on the outside.

 

Also I'm having an issue with the car dieseling after its shut off. I'm pretty sure its a vac leak and the only spots i can see that can have a leak are the pcv and some vacuum hose going to the distributor.

if you really wanted to you can take apart all the linkage and shit and swap the bowls around.

just a diffent setup, some have the floats on one side soem have it on the other, someone a lil more knowledgeable about su's will prolly be able to explain y, and the dieseling cood be ur timing, try bumping it back just a bit sounds too far advanced

oh yeah...what are the vacuum nipples on the floats for?

not vacumm, its the overflow, they are usually hardlined down near the edge of the frame

Bowl vents. Run a hose from them down below the motor so if a float sticks and the carb overflows it doesn't dump fuel all over the hot exhaust.
