620 clutch slave..not again!!

Recommended Posts

Ok the clutch slave on my 74 620 decided to come apart again yesterday! This is the 3rd time this has happened & im semi pissed!! I was on my way to the new house & i noticed the clutch started slipping bad! I get there & i notice that the clutch slave piston has come all the way out & is only being held in place by the rubber boot.I put it back together... I then fill the res. with fluid & have my wife help me bleed the clutch & i see fluid leaking again...looks like its getting past the piston. When this happened last month in Arizona it was because the clutch fork broke & it has alot of play. This time i dont think it's the case but i do notice the fork has some movement to it. What the hell.. is this just the slave going bad [only 2 years old] or can it be a trans. issue? Thanks guys...

Do you still have the old rod, was it the same length, I wonder.

If you remove the slave and rod and slide the boot off a bit, you could probably move the clutch arm forward enough to wipe a bit of white grease behind it on the pivot ball. Makes the pedal action 'smoother'.

Well from what i can recall the new pushrod was the same length as the old one. Im also wondering if the pivot ball for the clutch fork is'nt worn down causing excessive play !? Im wanting to do a 5 speed swap soon & this may be the end of the 4 speed.
