boxboy
I am regasketing my J13 and finally got the old gasket scraped off and cleaned up. Went to put it back on and neither of my books says anything about torque specs. So, I will ask the experts. Anyone got an idea? It is a cork/rubber gasket about 1/16 inch thick if that makes a difference. You all said "no goo on the gaskets" so it is going on dry. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment

Skib
whats the bolt size? Quote Link to comment
boxboy
9/16 I think. Pretty good sized bolts. I am assuming it wouldn't be super tight since it isn't just a paper gasket or anything. Quote Link to comment
420n620
3.5 to 5 ft lbs should do it, just make sure you put a drop of blue thread lock tight on the bolts. or just watch the gasket where it gets just lightly squished. Quote Link to comment
boxboy
Loc-tite was my other question. I tightened it down last night just with a small ratchet pretty snug. I guess I will have to back them out and put some Loc-tite on them. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
5 ft lb is light for an 14mm bolt. For an A13/A15 engine, the oil pump bolts are torqued at 8 to 12 ft lbs. And those are smaller 8mm bolts with 10mm heads. Thread locker is not used, but the bolts have lock washers. Quote Link to comment
boxboy
These aren't the oil PUMP bolts, but the filter housing on the outside of the engine. "A" motors probably don't have one, the filter probably screws directly to the block. I don't really know anything about A motors. The J engine has an aluminum housing that bolts to the block, and the filter screws onto that. I thought 5lbs didn't sound like much either. It does have lock washer though. Quote Link to comment
