Help!!! No spark at all.....

Recommended Posts

Let me start by saying I have very little mechanical experience....

My issue: My 320 had ignition spark but the battery was almost dead and it wouldn't turn over. I tried charging the battery outside of the car for 24 hours, and it wouldn't take the charge. I bought a brand new battery and place it correctly and now there is 0.0 spark. Not even a spark like before I replaced the batter. The head lights, dash lights work, but there is no spark at all coming from ignition. All fuses are good. I check the battery and it has 100% charge on it. All the wire are connected, nothing came un-done. What else can I check???

Remove the distributor cap so you can see the points.

Crank the motor over.... do the points open and close?

Is there any sparking at the points when they open ?

If the points are not opening or perhaps not closing, adjust so that they do.

If there is no spark at the points when cranking there may not be power to the coil. To check this Replace cap and wires, get a length of wire and make a jumper from the positive battery terminal to the + plus side of the coil. Crank motor you should have spark.

No spark? Coil may be bad or distributor not grounded properly.

Yes there is spark. Find out why there is no power from the ignition to the + side of coil.
