max2004
Took the Nissy out to the proving grounds this afternoon. All went so well, tows great hardly knew it was there. Purred in and around the trees with ease, climbed steep grades no problem. Took it on a flat straightaway, pushed it to 80KM. Then began to lose power, then became a 4 wheeled bug repeller . . . What a MAJOR #!@*&$# letdown!!! Could use a little encouragement guys. I can't give up on the Nissy. How long does it take to change the head gasket on the z24? Do the exhaust studs usually break? Any other pitfalls to look out for? Anyone done this recently and have a list of parts used? I searched here but could not find much. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
How long does it take to change the head gasket on the z24? Very easy compared to newer vehicles, or anything with a V type engine config Do the exhaust studs usually break? Yes Any other pitfalls to look out for? Breaking headbolts, and the z24 likes to crack the block around the headbolts. Anyone done this recently and have a list of parts used? I searched here but could not find much. Thanks Dont let it scare you too bad. Good time to buy a cheap KA, its a near bolt in. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
You can usually undo the manifold at the head with no probs. Option two is to undo the down pipe and lift the head off with the manifolds attached... saves a lot of unbolting and gaskets. Tilt it up only enough to wire wheel the head surface clean and not stir the sediment in the carb..... or remove carb first. Have to ask.... you know to block the timing chain before removing the cam sprocket right??? If not, find out or the chain tensioner WILL fall out. There is no fix but to remove the timing cover to fix. Avoid this screw up. Quote Link to comment
max2004
I'll check my local J/Y for any KA activity. That will be the answer if the head and or block is cracked. Think I'll leave the manifolds on when I take the head off. I've got a haynes manual here KingRat, shows dimensions for the piece of wood needed to hold the chain up. I see there are many head gasket brands to choose from. Which brand should I go with? Doesn't seem that bad now . . . Thanks all. Quote Link to comment
