herculesinwyoming
i just spent a good part of the day trying to get the timing adjusted on my litte 1976 620. It seems which ever way i adjust the dizzy it just isn't coming into spec. Some one in the past has had the front cover off the engine, is it possible they did a timing chain and didnt get the sproket on the correct number, like 1 2 or 3? The truck has been running rich and a the idle has been just a bit rough, i double checked the float adjustment on the carb and the air fuel mix. maybe i am too used to fuel injected cars, :D im a bit rusty on trouble shooting carbs and timing issues Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
How do you know it's rich? Black smoke out exhaust, black sooty plugs? Is the choke plate fully open when warmed up? Look down the carb when running... do you see any gas dripping in? Quote Link to comment

Cuts metal like mad
Set the engine to TDC, pull off the distributor, and look down the hole. You will see a tab poking up with a small side and a big side, small side should be toward fron of engine, big side should be towards rear, and tab should be lined up between the dizzy bolt holes at about 11:28 o'clock. That will give you base timing. Quote Link to comment
