burrito213
hello all, i was wondering if i can close off my engine/manual fuel pump and run an aftermarket fuel fuel pump. i was thinking of buying a universal fuel pump from pepboys and then using a "filter king" glass bottom fuel filter.... im assuming that i will run soft steel tubing through the frame and rubber tubing in the engine..... also seal off the manual fuel pump... any help or shcematics, guides, or anything... Quote Link to comment
jefe de jefes
You'll need to be able to drop the fuel pressure or you'll flood your carb. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
An electric pump rated at about 3 PSI should do it. Place as low and close to the fuel tank as you can safely. Run a cheap inline filter between it and the tank. Place both where they are protected and easy to get at. The filter will keep crap out of the pump. Quote Link to comment
Spades
Yes, for a while, I made a aluminum cover plate to block off where the mechanical fuel pump would go. Carter and some other manufacturers make low pressure fuel pumps(around 6 to 7 PSI), and you can run an adjustable fuel pressure regulator(preferably one with a return line) to dial the pressure to what your carburetor requires. I ran a cheap in line filter before and after the fuel pump. Quote Link to comment
