Eastcoast521
I've seen plenty of discussion on this topic but don't recall hearing anyone ask if a matchbox distributor from a 6 cylinder l-series engine would work if you put in/on the 4 cylinder cap and rotor. Would that work? Quote Link to comment
zerow
I've seen plenty of discussion on this topic but don't recall hearing anyone ask if a matchbox distributor from a 6 cylinder l-series engine would work if you put in/on the 4 cylinder cap and rotor. Would that work? Negative and No. If you pull the distributor cap on the 6 cylinder EI distributor, you will see on the stator that there are 6 prongs. This is the setup for the 6 cylinder cars. The 4 cylinder cars have a 4 prong stator. Now, I cannot be the one to confirm or deny this, but, I have heard that the stators can be purchased from Nissan, along with the 4 prong assembly that goes on to the distributor shaft. With the reliability of the EI distributor, and the cost of buying two VERY expensive parts from the dealer, why risk a bad setup. Get the 4 cylinder EI distributor and bolt it in. For future reference, you can swap the EI matchbox modules from the 6 cylinder and the 4 cylinder as long as the module says E12-80. The E12-93 has a function for the EFI and computer and will cause problems on an L-series 4 cylinder. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
As zerow said. They can be used if parts are swapped inside. I think there was someone on here who converted an L dizzy to work on a B-210 motor, or the other way round. Quote Link to comment
