zedman
Hey, I'm looking to replace the anemic, yet reliable work horse Z22 motor in my 1982 720 4x4. I have a spare L28E sitting in my garage with matching 5 speed. Who has done the swap ? Cheers Quote Link to comment

I have a spare L28E sitting in my garage with matching 5 speed. Who has done the swap ? Cheers Won't fit without cutting the fire wall or moving the rad to the box for room for the 2 extra cylinders. Almost certainly a custom oil pan. If you cut the fire wall the tranny will have to move back as well and you loose the heater. The engine alone is about 400+ lbs. I know you have one and it's cheap and available but... For 40 less lbs you could slip a KA24 E or DE in. It fits and makes as much power with potential to make way more. Better EFI technology and market support and well documented swap. (yeah I know) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Sure, but it would be as cool as a straight six ... but then for 50 more lbs you can fit a Ford 5.0 ... which would sound really cool ... Quote Link to comment
Skib
It can be done, buts its not done. because the time and effort is just no where near justification for the end result. not when you can fit a KA, SR20det, CA, FJ, or even a V8 with less cutting. Quote Link to comment
