datto510
Was it an original L series truck? Are you using a clutch type fan? That would cause it to hit. Quote Link to comment
sdsurf
I have an L20b in mine and have used both the clutch fan and L16 fan. No clearance issues whatsoever. Lots of people have done it, never heard of that problem Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
might have the engine mounts mounted to the block too far back, also some clutch fans stick out farther than others. Quote Link to comment
79D50
There is a similar thread that was posted a couple weeks back. Did you put the motor mounts on backwards? This will shift the entire assembly forward. Key clue if you did would be that the tranny was a pain to get mounted since it was too far forward. If you go electric you can save a few HP and get better cooling. Check into http://www.flex-a-lite.com/ Quote Link to comment
Thebandito
i do not think i put in the wrong engine mounts but i think i might go electric fan dont wana risk it u kno? thanks Quote Link to comment
mnementh666
I have a L20B in my '71 521 with no clearance issues... I don't think there would be issues even with a clutched fan. The only issue that should come up is clearances for a... different... carburetor (think short airfilter). :fu: Double check where and how you mounted it. I believe 79D50 nailed it with the tranny mounting... Edited December 2, 2009 by mnementh666 I'm retarded. Forgot a word. Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
do you know if the trucks been wrecked??? i know when i did my L20 swap in my 73 620, the fan sits real close.and i am using the L16 WP and fan. non clutch. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
You may have put the correct mounts in. Backwards. Quote Link to comment
whitechef
I have a L20B in my '71 521 with no clearance issues... I don't think there would be issues even with a clutched fan. The only issue that should come up is clearances for a... different... carburetor (think short airfilter). :fu: Double check where and how you mounted it. I believe 79D50 nailed it with the tranny mounting... I,ve got an L20B in my 71 as well no clutch fan and it sits just right. I have to put a rag on top of my air cleaner to keep it from touching the hood. Quote Link to comment
