BJW's FiveTen's
Ok here is my Question. I'm running a Ka in my Dime. What trans? I have a 81 280zx trans, and I have a Ka Series trans. And Will I have to change bellhousings to put the ZX trans in? Thoughts? Suggestions? Quote Link to comment
71ka510
why wouldnt you use the ka trani? Quote Link to comment
BJW's FiveTen's
I am just seeing what other people think. I like the zx trans because it is shorter. I am just looking for pros and cons on both Thanks Quote Link to comment
71ka510
ah i see.... i used the ka....... downside is, the whole speedo cable thing.... ka is electronic.... but there is a write up on here about using a longer speedo cable and a cog from the early trani..... not sur e if it has been road tested though Quote Link to comment
BJW's FiveTen's
I have a good ZX trans :D,and the Ka trans needs help. :( So it is not a deciding factor, but something to take into consideration. Also I will be making close to 300whp. So is one stronger than the other? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Stick with the KA's FS5W71C type. It's far better, improved and way stronger than the FS5W71B from a 280zx. Not all KA trannys had a speed sensor. The '86.5 through '93 Hardbody used a speedo drive cog and besides any FS5W71B type speedo cog made after '80 will fit the FS5W71C type anyway. Just remove the speed sensor and pop the drive cog in. The FS5W71B was not used in the turbo 280zx so that should tell you something right there. WagDatto
I used a 300zx speedo cog. Fits right into the transmission and pops in no problem. I bought a new speedo cable (automatic is longer) for like $15. It was accurate ENOUGH for me. Different wheel/tire size and difference in speedo gearing may have made it slightly off, but my speedo crapped out so it might have just been a bad speedo. Quote Link to comment
