tlap
I have read allot of posts concerning which oil to use in a manual trans. I see that GL4 is recommended in the manual. I just finished rebuilding my Dogleg 5 speed and I want to use a synthetic oil. The well known transmission parts supply company that I got all the parts from recommends using Dextron III in this trans. Has any one used ATF? I also see that some say to stay away from GL5 due to the synchro material. I found that Royal Purple Max Gear, states.... "Max-Gear Quote Link to comment
Duke
I have started using Redline MTL recently. Before using it, downshifting into third produced a little grind if you didn't match the revs perfectly. This is no longer a problem after using Redline. I have heard similar stories from other people. Proof enough for me to continue to use this stuff. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
They recomended Dextron III ATF? I can't believe that would be good. ATF doesn't have a high shear protection does it? Newer manual gearboxes are designed for ATF. 90W GL4 as Nissan recommends works great in these old boxes, even smooths out old worn syncros a little bit. A thinner oil supposedly makes shift "easier" but may not protect the gears. Quote Link to comment
