B210 Differential Questions

Recommended Posts

Some Information:

When I go around a corner, if I hit a bump or dip the car hops.

Yesterday, I had the rear-end jacked up so I could run it in gear to see if speedometer cable was spinning and BOTH rear wills spin forward.

Locked or Welded Posi Rear-End?

The rear end came out of a 78 B210GX Auto, so it should be a 3:9 Rear, but POSI TRAC?

Highly unlikely in a B210. But possible.

Do this test.

* block front wheels so car wont' roll, put emercgency brake OFF

* Put car in gear

* Jack up rear wheels

* can you turn it?

If you can turn it, it is not a locked spool (or welded).

If it is Limited Slip (POSI TRACTION is GM trademark for a kind of Limted Slip), I don't think it will turn either.

yes it will. if both wheels spin in the same direction, then its an LSD or welded. if they spin opposite, then its an open or not welded. i have done this test MANY times, and found my pathy has an LSD but nothing else right now.
