sloppy shifter

'Sup guys? What makes the shifter sloppy in my PL521? It's a 4 speed, it shifts just fine but when it's in gear I can move it side to side just like it's in neutral. Thanks in advance. Chris.

the fork part is just separating. need to squeeze it back together.

 

look closely at how it works. just nature of these things.

Ahh the 521 and 510 'A' type shifter has earned it's name as the 'Monkey Motion' shifter.

Squeeze the fork on either side of where the pin (19) and the washers (18) are.

Jeez Mike, That looks kinda complicated, Could you elaborate a little more? Is anything going to fall down into the tranny when I pull the 17 pin? Chris

The E clip !!!!!!!!!!!!

 

go over on concreete so you can find it.

 

I replace the pin with a stainless bolt &selflocking nut and squeezed the shit out of it.

Yeah, you don't have to take everything off. Pin 19 and the two 18s. Everything is on the outside of the tranny, nothing can fall into it. Little tight to get at, but the price you pay for a snug shift.
