    ST decals

In case anyone is looking for ST decals I saw this company advertising on Facebook Marketplace. Their name is River Decals. I have no affiliation with the company and have no idea what kind of quality they are. Just thought I would share in case anyone is interested. This picture was taken from their listing. They have a website, https://riverdecals.com/, but I didn't see the ST decal on the website so anyone without FB would likely have to email them about it.
  2. Thanks Thomas, I am aware of this guy. I wish he didn't live on the other side of the country from me lol. He has had a few things before that I would be interested in if he was driving distance from me but there is no chance I am paying for shipping on a brush guard lol. Plus he asks a premium for a lot of the things he sells.
  3. A good friend of mine's son really likes early/mid 80s japanese trucks and has his eye on an 83 Datsun 720 4x4. For those of your that have 80-84 model trucks how difficult is it to find parts for them and are any of those year models more difficult than others? I am very familiar with the 85-86 models but am not sure how many parts are shared between mine and the older models. Doesn't really matter too much about what is shared between them really, the bigger issue is are the parts available for the older models? I know when I look around for used ones I typically find more 85 models for sale than the older ones. Part of that may be because the beds rusted off so many of the older ones that they ended up getting scrapped lol.
  4. Those valve cover screws take a PH3 Phillips driver. If you strip those you are putting way too much torque on them and using the wrong size screw driver. They are more than adequate. The most common cause of stripped screws is most people think a #2 Phillips screwdriver fits every screw ever made.
  5. Gotta love Torque Test Channel, I have watched a lot of their videos.
  6. FYI, I just saw where these are back in stock. Only place I am aware of that carries them. I really want to get some because mine are in really bad shape but $170 is steep. https://vintagerubber.com/datsun-720-king-cab-side-window-seal-kit/
  7. I don't have a pic but it was right beside the transfer case. There was also a piece that attached the frame to guard the edge of the converter.
  8. Nice looks good, I typically don't like white letter tires but I think they are fitting on these 70s-80s trucks because they were very popular then. That's why I put them on my 720. Now I just need to find a roll bar which is proving fairly difficult. I am curious though why so many people go to larger front brakes on these trucks. I have always thought my 4x4 720 stopped just fine.
  9. Just because you had a cat that was broken apart on the inside when your head gasket blew doesn't mean the cat caused the head gasket to blow.
  10. If it's a king cab take a good look at the rubber around the small king cab windows. These are almost impossible to find in good shape.

    Tire size

For sure stay close to stock diameter. You may like the look of a larger tire but you will soon regret it. Your acceleration will become very sluggish and you'll be shifting like crazy at every incline you get to.
  12. You certainly can't that's why I said I wouldn't offer much. I should have read the original post more carefully, since you are looking at this as something you need as a daily driver then I would certainly walk away if you can't test drive it. In my position, I would low ball them an offer if I couldn't drive it because I have spare trucks :-) It would be a very low ball offer though.
  13. if it has a plastic bedliner in it be sure to remove it and inspect under it well or at least get under the truck and inspect the bed really well. Plastic bedliners in a truck that old are typically just there to keep things from falling through the rust holes lol. Rust in the front edge of the bed are really common in these trucks. I could stick my hand through the entire front of the bed on my last 2wd 720 I had, at least after I removed the plastic bedliner :-) Like Mike said be sure to drive it because finding these with bad transmission bearings seems to be more common than not in my experience. If he won't let you drive it then there is definitely something wrong with it. In that case it's a matter of how good you are at fixing vehicles and the condition of what you can see and hear. I wouldn't offer much if I couldn't drive it though.
  14. My tach always shows around 950RPM but when I connect my digital timing light up I am pretty sure it usually says around 770RPM if I remember correctly. Like Mike said, 1000 should be fine. If it gets much higher than that it may start dieseling when you shut it off.
  15. It's also very common for your tailgate to make noise when hitting bumps if it isn't closing tight which is very common. Not sure I would describe that sound as a clunk though. Either way something to check.
  16. This might have been an 86 with the z24i that someone put an aftermarket carb on. I have read you can do that and leave the crank angle sensor and the truck will run fine. I went ahead and replaced mine with a standard distributor and rewired it.
  17. That's why I posted the YouTube link, they included the Phillips. I really think the Phillips seem to hold their own against the more expensive ones. Guess I am going to have to just try them out to see. I'll likely give the low beams a shot first to see how they do. Will cost a little extra in shipping to buy low and high beam separate but I think I would rather do that than buy all 4 at once and take the chance they are disappointing. Not sure if RockAuto would let me return them simply because I don't like them lol.
  18. Are you sure it's not coming in from around the windshield? It's pretty common on these. Could be under the cowl as well, that is also common.
  19. Those Holley's look nice but I am on the fence about paying $85 a piece, no chance I am paying twice that lol.
  20. On top of all the terrible LEDs out there, here in the Carolinas we have to deal with idiots doing this to their trucks without adjusting their headlights.
  21. Here is a pretty good YouTube video comparing different 4x6 LED headlight replacements. If you are interested in only the Phillips fast forward to around the 10 minute mark. Ignore the end of the video where he shows what he considers the only 3 worth buying. Those just happen to be the 3 brands he sells on his website and are also way more expensive than the Phillips. I guess I at least have to give him props for even including the Phillips in his test since he doesn't sell it, it's way cheaper than what he does sell, and it works as well as anything he sells. He even has really good things to say about it during his testing, (this is the low beam version of it which performs just as good as the low beam of the $300 versions this dude sells lol) The dishonest part is at the end when he doesn't even mention it when it seems clear to me that it is the best option, especially when price is considered. One other thing not mentioned in this video is the Phillips simply looks better because it uses a simple reflector design. Looks much closer to the stock headlight look. The others, in my opinion, are just plain ugly and would look ridiculous on something like a 720.
  22. You will likely never find a set of these used in good condition. All of mine are pretty bad. VintageRubber now has a listing on their website for new ones but it currently says out of stock so not sure if they are planning to make more or not. I contacted them a year ago asking if they would make some. Didn't figure they would be $170 though lol. https://vintagerubber.com/datsun-720-king-cab-side-window-seal-kit/ As far as cutting the floors out, sorry but I just don't have the time to do that.
