All of the interior panels in my '40 Ford are aluminum. The material that goes on them is always foam backed, or the panel is foam covered first. There is no problem with droning, noise, etc. Using professional upholstery glue to apply the material to the panel works great. I think the main reason it's not used more is people always want cheap..
A lot of people recommend using ABS because it is easily molded. BUT, it's hot here, and that stuff can warp if the car gets hot enough.
Very timely post as I'm redoing an old set of seats. Here's the original fiberboard backing, and the replacement backing just put on yesterday..
Its always the peanut gallery with the shit box cars that have something to say. Hows that bad boy coming along.

Noise, cold, heat, all of the above. Not sure if Mike is referring to the original fiberboard or the vinyl. Let's see them with the vinyl wrap (or did you do leather?).
Its all Leather. I had 3 hides brought in from a company called Relicate Leather. And most people have no clue what there talking about like Mike. Hot Rodders in all the top builds use aluminum. If you look at those panels all the clips have a retainer as well so to not pop out. Also the speaker pods are bolted to the truck and there is center clips as well so to not rattle like a tin can. This is not your average shit box Datsun. I think I have an idea of what I/we are doing.

Custom door panels are actually wrapped with material now. Me and my guy was mocking them up for fitment. All made out of aluminum of course. 3 way speakers for the Alpine stereo stuff. Slowly but surely. Bleeding brakes. Need to still get the dam Radiator mounted and possible fire up with out intercooler for now, just so I can feel good. Transmission looks to have a leak from the plate mounted were input shift comes out to flywheel. Fuck it for now, I can fix later just want to move forward. it will be ok when done cars and coffee truck at least.
Most people don't notice the panels go to bottom of the door. Also the black truck is peeking at me and you a little jealous she is not getting attention right now.

Hi
Does anyone know of a used engine importer that can find a FJ20 engine and trans. They seem to be plentiful in Australia but I cannot find any used engine dealers that will ship stateside. Or if someone knows of a available engine sitting in someone's basement I would be open to discussions.
thanks
Colin
Transmission, just use a KA24 trans they bolt right up. Starter water pump from the L series fits them as well.

On a side note, been working on my Syclone as well. Converted the front of the truck to Coilovers. Ditched the torsion cars and got some upper and lower control arms, along with a set of viking coil overs. Rear will be next as my back hurts from crawling under the truck. lol

Wiring is 99% done. Just taillights when ready and a few more things for under the dash. Then pop some oil in it and finally start it up.

So the almost finished product. I like it however its to bulky so we are cutting the back side down to trim the fat.

Engine torque damper. Keeps the engine from vibrating too much when on the trailer 😛

Then that is the Subaru flange/downpipe. 👍
510 wagons do not come with gas doors, they just have an exposed cap on the outside of the car.
We grafted in a remote opening fuel door from a Subaru GL10 wagon.
Still surprised when I see guys do a nice paint job on a wagon and then keep that exposed fill cap. I think we were maybe the the first to do this modification, but I've only ever seen one guy copy it...
Mark has done it before you guys on the only RHD wagon probably in North America.

The billet one is a copy of the basic BRE shape. I think it's cool that he's having them made, but I don't love the billet look with all the machining marks on it.
You can make them roughed up like the cast manifold style.

Yes the mikuni’s are definitely hard to come. But I have a pair of mikuni’s 44 already. Got them from Japan, and now being rebuilt by Kyusha House. I have a matchbox distributor but think of getting a new Hot spark one.
As for the manifold still looking I know they’re out there, so if anyone has seen a one I would appreciate the help in sourcing one. I do know Troy Ermish makes them too.
The Troy Ermish one is billet with a bigger port forgot the size. Mikuni matching manifold will be hard to find.
