Rustbuster78
I made my first post on here about 2 weeks ago about my 78 hl510 wagon. I now think I figured out which model of Weber carburetor I have. I believe it's a 38/38 just by going off of appearance. I couldn't find a model number anywhere, I looked all around the base flange and didn't see anything. Here are some pictures. https://imgur.com/pP8Ovwi https://imgur.com/onqPyYC https://imgur.com/AI0Ft0a It has the fuel mixture screws coming straight out of the side instead of on an angle like a 32/36. I also think the main issue is that the carburetor needs a rebuild, as it seem like the gaskets are leaking. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 38/38 has the two barrels ganged together with gears. They both open at the same time. This is way too big for a two liter engine and is more at home on a V6 or small V8. It will work... but you would be happier with a 32/36. The 32/36 has a progressive tip in secondary that begins to open above half throttle. Just easier to drive and better on gas. 1 Quote Link to comment

I just went ahead and bought a 32/36 today. Thanks for the help! Quote Link to comment

You should replace the gasket where the riser and the intake meet, as well as the gasket underneath the carb while you have it off. I cant remember if the sandwich plate has one or not 1 Quote Link to comment
