Gas gauge ohms with fuel cell sender

Recommended Posts

I am installing a fuel cell with sender in 521. I I understand it the 521 is like 90ohms empty, and 0 ohms full. My sender is 0ohms empty and 90ohms full so opposite. Does that mean if I hook up to stock gauge full will show empty and empty will show full? If so I may run it like that for a bit.

Generally 10 ohms or less is full and 80 ohms or more is empty. There's no way to run this correctly.  The sender has to match the Datsun gauge. Sender mounted upside down will work. Kind of weird.

I wonder if the gauge operates in the way this diagram shows if there is a way to flip the coil so the gauge now works with less then 10 ohms empty and more than 80ohms full.

Current flows in one direction. Turn the sender upside down might work.

This diagram is wrong also. The end of the coil should be grounded as well. This way if the wiper should ever break contact it cannot arc. Something that's not good inside a gas tank.
