MannyL
My 1980 720 has 8 bolts on the valve cove and the gasket they gave me only has 6 holes and definitely doesn’t line up? Any help Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it really is an '80 720 then it should have 6 bolts or the engine has been changed. The 1980 model year was the last 720 that came with the two liter L20B engine and it had 6 bolts. Is your carburetor on the right or passenger side of the engine? If yes then you have a Z series engine and it does take 8 bolts to hold the valve cover. I think they still put the build date on the driver's door jam so have a look. If you have a 1980 model year the build date will be between June (1/'79) and July (7/'80) The 1981 model year begins July (8/'80) so possible to have an '81 that was built in 1980. 1 Quote Link to comment

Fat510
L20Bs were 4 plug with carbs on the driver side. They gave you the right one for the year but your truck has the newer style engine. Exchange it for an 81+ 720 gasket. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The tag identifies the engine installed at the factory. If it says L20B then your engine has been swapped in. There were three Z series engines Z20, Z22 and Z24. To know exactly what you have look between the two pair of exhaust outlets just below the #2 and #3 spark plugs on the block. There is a flat raised boss with the engine displacement stamped on it. Quote Link to comment
