I found this chunk of metal in the oil pan of the L20B that I'm working on. Anybody recognize what it is?

Yeah that looks like the metal guard that holds the fly screen mesh over the internal side of the block vent. Should be two screws with it and some wadded up screen.

Thanks for the info. I can already tell it might be a hard to find a replacement part. Nothing is popping up on Google, may have to do a deeper search.

One wonders where the screen and the screws went. The screen sieves the oil fog and the droplets collect on the screen and drop out rather than be pushed out the vent and through the PCV valve.

As for a replacement... every L series has one in it. Find a junked L16 and bingo! All Z series engines are based on the L20B block and have them but the part numbers don't match but the screens are the same so??? probably  the same.

The screen is still in place. I can see it. But, yeah, the screws are nowhere to be found. Maybe they came out during a previous oil change by the previous owner. The engine ran fine before I extracted it from the 720 pickup.
