Well they do have automatic and standard starters. Both use the exact same ring gear on the flywheels.

There is a manual starter then there is an automatic starter that is marked 'optional for manuals.' So would this suppose that the automatic starter is somewhat better and can be optionally used on a manual??? This would also suggest that the manual would also fit the automatic.

I don't think it matters that much. The trick is getting something these days that has some quality. Most are crap with cheap bushings and bearings thrown in and as I always say I would rather have a $25 original Nissan one in a wrecking yard that has 100k on it.

'78 and '79 620 manual trucks had an optional gear reduction starter for Canadian trucks that was an option for the US. For cold weather. Turns slightly slower but with more torque. I have a gear reduction starter from a Maxima L24 six cylinder in my 710. They are different looking.

Ordinary starter on the left and the Maxima six cylinder gear reduction on the right.

It's longer and stronger.
