Z24 distributor mounted on z24i

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I've done reading on as many sights as possible but I cant quite seem to find exactly what it is im looking for

I have a distributor from a 1984 z24

And im looking to mount it onto my z24i because im going turbo and fitech.

All I want to know is what else do I need to make it all fit together from what it looks like ill need to swap to a different timing cover to make the mounting correct also the distributor doesn't seem to seal at all with my current timing cover so if anyone has any info on this topic a response would be very much appreciated thank you so much.

All you need is the oil pump/distributor drive spindle. The Z24i spindle is splined to fit the Z24i CAS crank angle sensor.

You need this style spindle...

From another Z24/ Z22/ Z20 or L20B.

Set engine to TDC compression stroke on number one cylinder using the front pulley and the ignition timing scale on the timing cover...

To confirm both intake and exhaust valves should be shut.

Remove the 4 bolts holding the oil pump on and remove. The spindle will likely just fall out with it. Have rags ready as some oil will drip. Install the spindle into the oil pump like this...

And install. For now just use one bolt loosely to hold in place. Now look down the distributor hole above. What you should see is this...

Note that there is a large and small side for the half moon. The tang must be positioned at 11:28-ish. May take a couple of tries. Once you have this tighten the oil pump bolts and install the Z24 distributor. The timing will be close but best to check.

Do you have a Z series spindle??? I probably have one and am on the Island.

Yeah all I need now is a z24 spindal

Im on the North Island. I'd love to buy your spindal off you. But my question of the distributor still not matching up to the timing cover hole is still unanswered when inserted its just all loose and doesn't have any way to properly mount the distributor.

Is it missing one of these?????

It's the distributor pedestal and bolts to the timing cover...

When removing a distributor always remove those 2 bolts and lift everything out. This way the ignition timing is retained.

Can you post a picture of your distributor???

I think the Z24i and the KA are similar mount. One of the bolts lines up, you may bave to dril and tap the other. But it's been done to fit an older distributor to a KA engine.

When I dig out I'll go have a look for the one I have.
