On the manual says there is a lockring but there isn't one on this particular starter. Engine is a L18 on a Datsun 720 KC Starter is a Mitsubishi M3T20681 Pinion have stamped 333 71 Thanks in advance! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted May 12, 2021 Report Share Posted May 12, 2021 Try pushing that black part down. The 'clip' should be right tight up against it. It may appear as a round wire ring with the the ends touching forming a small crack. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted May 12, 2021 Report Share Posted May 12, 2021 Good question, I can see it now. Carefully push, or tap, or drive the bearing? (called the pinion stopper) back towards the starter. This will expose the pinion stopper clip so you can pry it out. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
