K Appley
I'm wondering if the experts here can tell me if it's worth pursuing obtaining a 60 four speed transmission to swap in the fifth overdrive parts out of a junk five speed. Haven't really looked into it but just had a thought. Kurt Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The rear of the 60 series 4 speed does not have room for the fifth gear. Why would it? All it was intended for was the reverse gear and idler. There would be no provision for a 5th gear spline on the mainshaft. If it was even possible.... you would need to swap the main and counter shafts to provide mounting points for the 5th gear and the tail for extra room. 4 spd. top and 5 spd. below it. K Appley
Well, everything at the rear of this 5 speed looks OK. It has been disassembled but not by me. I'll have to look it over carefully but I believe the layshaft and gears look pretty nasty. Kurt Quote Link to comment
