Lockleaf
Look up LZ engine builds. You shouldn't be in for any surprises that aren't listed in those for the most part. You will need to extend your L timing cover up 3/4 of an inch or so to meet the head. The z24i dizzy will not work, but you may be able to just use l20 dizzy. You may need to use Z oil pump shaft and L dizzy. Not sure way compression would be, but it's worth finding out before putting it together. Engines with L heads need to lean like L engines so you will need L series engine brackets. This tilt will make you trans bolt up at a seriously tilted angle as well, either to the L or to an LZ. You will need the front bellhousing/ trans case from an L series trans. This will fit to your z24 trans, but orient the bellhousing the correct way. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Everything, (including engine mount brackets) from the L20B, but the block/crank/pistons goes on the Z24 block. There will be a 2cm/20mm gap between the top of the timing cover and the bottom of the W58 head now because the Z24 is that much taller. Have a shop TIG weld something on. The L20B timing cover will allow the L20B matchbox to work with this set up. In effect you are making an L24 out of a Z24. The Z24 5 speed will bolt to this hybrid but will be rotated about 40 degrees towards the driver and the shifter will be in you right ribs. You will need to source an L series five speed or, the front case from an L series 4 or 5 speed and swap it onto the front of the Z24 transmission. In effect you are making an L series 5 speed out of a Z series 5 speed. There is about 12 cc less combustion chamber between a Z24 head and an L20B head. This will bump the compression to 9.47.
