Hayhayman
What Pistons would fit on bored .40" F54 block and what math would I use to find it out? Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Ummmm.... +.040 pistons for your engine? You want good answers, put in a good title and provide real information. What type build? What kind of CR are you wanting? Etc. These guys only share when they believe their answers are worth giving. Give enough info so they feel inclined to respond. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'81-'83 280zx block. 86mm bore by 79mm stroke. Crank center line to top of block is 207.85mm Any crank/rod/piston has to be close to this total without being too far over (piston hits head at TDC) or too far under. (has too low a compression at TDC) Well, L28 pistons that are 87mm (or 1mm oversize) will work as they are simply an oversize placement. Nissan might have them still, or a supplier. If you don't mind mixing parts. Early Z22 pistons on L16/L24 rods will also work. The L16/L24 rods are almost 3 mm longer than the L28 rods making this a 'long rod' engine. This combination of 35.5mm piston height, 133mm length rod and 39.5mm (half the stroke) add to 208mm allowing the piston to be 0.15mm above the L28's deck. It won't hit the bottom of the head as there is about 1.2mm of crushed gasket separating them. The early Z22 pistons are 87mm and have a 9.32 cc dish. Compression will depend on what head you use. If you supply the combustion chamber volume I can work this out for you. 2 Quote Link to comment
