Low73620
new issue with my daily driver. My lo-beams stopped working. still have highs and all other lights.. i do hear a click sound from the the front right side of the truck when turning on the switch. Thinking its a relay, is there a replacement? Thanks Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
try reseating the connector and ck the lamps also. I had blown out low beams both at the same time I think the relay is just a pass thru when on Low meaning its no engaged and just passes thru the switch via the ground so make sure ground good and also replace the fuse just in case it looks viasually good as most can break inside on the ends. most times this will fix it Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Hmmmm relays can either be in Lo or High can't be both. When you select Lo beams do the inner high beams go out? Quote Link to comment
Low73620
no inner lights - no outer lights, with the lo beams on Quote Link to comment
Low73620
when hi is selected all 4 light up... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The relay clicking would seem to indicate that it is at least working. So two things. The contacts inside not working or the Red/White low beam wire is loose on the relay. Find the relay by clicking the hi/lo on and off. The relay has four wires... Red............... power from the lighting switch. Powers the relay and hi and lo beams. Red/Yellow.... the lo beam selector on the steering column grounds this wire, turning the relay coil on, and switches power to the Red/Black wire that powers the lo beams. Red/Black*.... powers lo beams when Red/Yellow wire is grounded* Red/White.... powers hi beams when Red/Yellow wire is not grounded. See if the Red/Black wire is loose or corroded. A volt meter should show 12 volts when set to lo beams. If not, then the relay can be removed, pried apart and the contacts cleaned. Fold a thin strip of very fine emery paper, place between the contacts, gently hold contacts closed and draw the emery paper out to polish them. Quote Link to comment
