Meticulous
I have an 81 210 with A15 fresh rebuild. I cannot seem to get my carb to run the engine.what jets size are you guys using? Carby worked great before I pulled the engone before the rebuild but i was more than 2 turns out on the mixture to make it run. Some advice would be helpful thanks. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
I highly recommend purchasing a vacuum gauge from Sears for $32, a return spring for your throttle on the carb, a 6 pack of beer and about 45 mins. I'm unsure of the Hg (inches of mercury; an increment of measurement for vacuum) an A15 should pull, but I know the L series are approximately 15-18Hg. In a perfect world, an engine should pull 30Hg, but that's scientifically impossible unless you're in our outer atmosphere... in space. I'd reckon the A series should be about the same. To tune the engine with a vac gauge, remove a line that has constant vacuum -- this line must below the carb, NOT at the carb like a vacuum advance line. I'd pull the hose off of the manifold where the brake booster plugs into and plug your vac gauge into manifold. Start you engine and get a the lowest idle, around 700rpm or so by playing with the throttle screw. Now, play with the idle mixture screw until you're pulling the highest amount of vacuum, roughly 18Hg. This proves, without a doubt, you're running at the best idle you can possibly be at. Science doesn't lie. Be sure to attach that return spring so the throttle doesn't walk around on you. Sure, you can tune by ear. Many people do, but in this situation it's important to be right on the money. Plus you're MPG's will increase. Who knows, maybe power too.... 1 Quote Link to comment

Meticulous
So when its cold and choked i can get it to idle but its high and im more then 3 turnes out on the mix screw but dies with throttle and dies when butterflies open up when its warm. I bout the carb kit for my motor and it worked great befor my rebuild and im wondering if polishing out my intakes on the head has somthing to do with this. Motor is all stock except the carby. mhub91
I'd side with timing.... Quote Link to comment
Meticulous
Timing mark is at 5° with the rotor pointing at #1 so im sure timing is fine but ill turn it a tooth and report back. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
Check for vacuum leaks. You also have to adjust the valves if you had the engine rebuilt. Quote Link to comment
Meticulous
Lol yes i adjusted the valves. Like i said it idles cold but very fast with mixture screw 4 turns out. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
if carb was taken off reck the carb adapter for cracks also make sure the 2nd barrel the spring is keeping the 2nd buterfly closed Quote Link to comment
