Here is a better perspective to one of my favorite runs out here in Beautiful Central Oregon...To start out from my place there is very little traffic getting out of town, it's about 2 miles to the one and only road needed to know to take this drive! The first thirty miles is a leisurely stroll through rural farms and homesteads along a road with long winding corners and straightaways rolling up and down over the terrain. You are able to pickup the pace the further you drive out past the farms off into the badlands pushing closer to warming up for the run ahead...As we roll up on the first stop sign in miles we time our departure to set pace for if we take off too soon we may run into some interference...Ready ...set...Go...But not yet, this next leg is ten miles of getting prepared to bring your senses to the forefront and start to narrow in your field of vision preparing to make the run as safe and fun as possible whilst staying within the confines of the law to the best of our ability as the is no posted speed but yes it is a well resided recreation area...BE RESPECTFUL!
Finally we pull up to the last stop sign, this is our turn, just a short jaunt to the starting line to gather our thoughts...There is a nice little marina at the back side of Prineville reservoir, this is a great meeting spot to wait if you are travelling in a group also has a "pit stop"...NOW it's time for a Canyon Run!
As we exit the parking area we have to remember this is a public road and to be safe and mindful of others sharing in various forms of recreation (even though you might want to hit a few, don't!)...3...2...1...from the stop sign it's a hard right from a stand still and this usually entails the sound of tires chirping in the wind, short burst to the first corner. Hard left, immediate hard right and over the damn overlooking the drive ahead, another hard left and down the hill into the canyons...The next 19 miles is the perfect balance of corners and elevation changes down to the back side of Prineville where one can roll into town undetected, sneak in for lunch and get back out without any real hang ups or attention being drawn, also good for the guys that might need to cool down before the run back up...
From here we once again gather our thoughts and make a run for home base...Back through a strip of rural farm land before ascending back up the breathtaking Crooked River Canyon as we wind up and through the corners and straights to the sound of high revved L20B doing it's best to keep up with my feet...As we roll back up on the damn we remind ourselves to reel it back in and take more of a cruise back into civilization, relishing in our glory of another successful trek on the road to freedom... One last sprint as we round this long swooping left hand corner at the top of third gear sliding into forth gear as we are on the downhill slope back into the badlands and just like that 5th gear and finding our top speed real quick before we approach our local farmers and tone it back out of respect for our neighbors...At this point some choose to go for a parade around town as the onlookers point and stare oblivious to the shear accomplishment of this fine piece of machinery while others just roll back to the shop to go tweak and tune for the next run...Cheers Aa‪#‎5NDIME‬@510BendOr
