king bee66 Posted November 27, 2014 Report Share Posted November 27, 2014 my ballast resistor literally broke and i was wondering if i could replace the entire assembly with a high energy coil. ive currently got a stock remote ignition. what wiring would i have to modify to do this correctly, on the diagrams ive seen, the resistors have fewer connections than that came with my vehicle here is what i have as opposed to all of the other representations ive seen look more similar to this Quote Link to comment

All you need is a factory EI coil used after '77. Just order a '79 S-10 (200sx) coil and you ar good to go. Don't bother with aftermarket coils that are long on hype and short on any improvement. Get whichever is cheaper. ive currently got a stock remote ignition. Yes but is it in and running? You have the '78 remote igniter distributor like this?... It needs the remote igniter box mounted under the dash> like this?... what wiring would i have to modify to do this correctly, on the diagrams ive seen, the resistors have fewer connections than that came with my vehicle Need the above question answered first. datzenmike Posted November 28, 2014 Report Share Posted November 28, 2014 Yeah, California emissions had them from around '76 or so on. Federal was '78 only and matchbox '79 and '80. L (blue) turns on and off to fire the coil. BW (Black/White stripe) is power to the remote and the + side of coil BR (Brown/Red stripe) is the start position on the ignition and must also go to the + side of the coil That's it. Disconnect and remove the rest. Quote Link to comment
