73-620
Im new here and i was wondering if you could help me. The motor misses at high and low rpm and backfires out the exhaust at high rpm i believe it is the distributor but i am not sure. I want to convert to an electronic distributor how do i get this done on a budget. Quote Link to comment
spottedog
Bad condenser, oxidized points, carbon tracks in distributor cap, valve lash too tight, flakey ignition coil, carb jet(s) or fuel filter partially pluged causing lean out. Quote Link to comment
LenRobertson
Here is one link on converting to a matchbox dizzy: http://web.archive.org/web/20050308082501/home.att.net/~jason510/Dizzy_FAQ.htm Do you have an L16, L18, or L20 engine? There are differences in the dizzy pedestal with different blocks. I'm a little hazy on which you need for which block. Post which engine you have and maybe someone else can tell which pedestal you need. Len Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Remove clean and re set (or replace) the plugs. Gap is 0.032". Inspect the wires and if in doubt replace them. Inspect the rotor and the cap and again if in doubt replace them. Check clean and set the point gap (about 0.023") Inspect the connections and wiring to the distributor the coil and the ballast resistor near it. Clean and tight. Now see if that fixes it. If not, then a matchbox isn't going to help. Quote Link to comment
mike
…Could have dropped a valve seat as well. Adjust your valves and if that doesn't sort it out do a compression test. Quote Link to comment
