captaingamez
I picked up a set of these fairly rare wheels the other day. The ones I have are 15x7 +15 and 15x6.5 +15. I decided that they deserve to be brought back to new condition. 1 Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I started disassembling them. I plan on getting the lips repolished, getting black hardware, and powder coating the centers gunmetal grey. Or maybe I could flip the hoops for mad dish yo??? 1 Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I think this is the hardware I am going to go with. There are 20 bolts in each racing mesh so 80 bolts total. Original screw head diameter is 12.9 mm. http://www.ebay.com/itm/280936725338?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 These are the old M7x32 bolts. EDIT: M8 BOLTS NOT M7 1 Quote Link to comment

captaingamez
I try. I have realized that being a baller is freaking pricey. The plating shop wants $25 each to acid strip the paint and crap off the centers and powdercoat them. So thats another $100, thanks liberal tree huggers. Buying the rims is literally only half the price of refinishing them, lolololol. Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
And $25 each is what they charge my work!!! I cant even imagine what they charge a normal person off the street. But the Acid will remove EVERYTHING. the paint, the grease, the 30 years of brake dust, EVERYTHING, so it will leave a perfect surface for the coating to stick to. After they are stripped I still have to hit the face with a DA sander, then sand inside the mesh and get it all perfect. The color I have chosen is Auto Charcoal Metallic, its a nice metallic grey and shoul look excellent. I cant wait to get these done Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
Since it was paint and not powder coat, they are only charging me $12.50 per center, I get them back tomorrow morning, nice and clean. This is the color I am going with on the centers. 1 Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I got the centers back from acid strip today. Removed 30 years of brake grime. and all the paint. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stevexc
I got the centers back from acid strip today. Removed 30 years of brake grime. and all the paint. Looking good! Seeing these photos is making me keen to get mine done when I get back home! Should look good in the colour you chose too! You might have already mentioned this but what are they going on? captaingamez
1984 Maxima I definitely reccomend going the acid strip route, it removes no actual material, I can see machine marks now, that would be gone with sandblasting. Quote Link to comment

Very true, only reason I was considering sand blasting is I have a mate with a sand blasting company so can get it done cheap, might have to look into local places that acid dip though. =) Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
It only ended up costing me $60 for all 4, but that is through my company. I dont know if that would be the same price as a walk in, but it shouldnt be too much either way. Quote Link to comment

Ill have to try to find a local shop once I get back from Japan and get mine done. When are your centres getting powder coated? Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I am not sure exactly when, but it should be soon. The powder just came in today. and I taped up the centers, Quote Link to comment
Stevexc
Niceee =) Cant wait to see them after the powder coating is done! Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
Freshly polished lips. I have professionals with massive buffer/sanders at my work do this, they do very nice work. 1 Quote Link to comment
RedSquare
Looking good. I'm eager to see these on the 910. 1 Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I picked up the hardware today and finished taping off the rims. Hardware was a laughable $15.90 for 100. I bought two boxes since the chrome place minimum charge is $300, and they can do 200 bolts for that price. 1 Quote Link to comment
Omelet720
Damn, 300 for chrome plating. Definitely dell the other 100 and get some of that back, haha. Are you doing the powder coating yourself? Anyway these are going to be f'in sexy when they're done, nice work. Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
I'm a machinist, we make wheels at my job. So we are powdercoating them there.$300, yes, very pricey. However Olymco plating essentially developed Black chrome 30 years ago. Their whole plating process is military grade, they have mil spec numbers and very thing, so it's worth it to me. Regular bright chrome would have only cost me $80 Edit: avoid Olymco plating like the plague, they screwed me for alot of money, read ahead..... Quote Link to comment
Omelet720
Sweet deal man. I didn't even realize you were going with black chrome!! That's going to look killer. And military grade will last a long ass time. Good luck with your wheels, I'm excited to see how these turn out. Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
Thanks a bunch!, Yeah what is really nuts is there is only 5 plating companies in the US that actually do black chrome. I just happened to pick the one that essentially created the process. 1 Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
My local Ace hardware store has black chrome bolts... just saying. Quote Link to comment
captaingamez
And they pretty much cost what im paying, probably substantially more, mine round out to $1.50 per bolt, my local hardware store wants quite a bit more than that. Quote Link to comment
