getting timing chain back on???

Hi everyone!

I've the head on my 75 620 to change the head gasket which I have done, and put the head back on. I am having a ton of trouble getting the timing chain gear(with the chain on it) back on the front of the cam.

I feel like I'm missing something here. This is my first In-the-engine experience...I don't know much I may just be missing a step. I was under the impression that I'd be able to take the head off and put it back on without having to get to any timing chain tensioner...but maybe I'm wrong.

Help

Thankyou,

Dave.

Yes, the timing chain has a tensioner that should have been blocked to prevent it falling out of place when the chain is loosened. I'm afraid you will have to remove drain the rad and remove it, the water pump, oil pump and distributor, crank pulley so you can remove the timing cover to get at it.

Here is what you will find with the cover off...
