DottiBlue
I was reading today that the oil pump from a 280zx turbo is a direct bolt on to the ka block. I also read that the auto is a high flow oil pump. Can any one confirm this? Thanks Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Doesn't the oil pump bolt to the timing cover? Quote Link to comment
DottiBlue
Ggzilla, true, I was more referencing which engine I Was talking about. And now I know the ka and l series oil pumps are interchangeable. From another website for those who are interested "It was my understanding talking with Nissan Motorsports that the 83 Automatic has the largest of the gerotor assemblies. This is what Nissan said, so that's what I specify now when I'm ordering. I always thought they were all the same (turbos are turbos are turbos) but Nissan says "NO". Perhaps they added a higher pressure spring to make up for the oil cooler and piping losses with the automatic (as the manual tranny cars don't necessarily have that item. My 81 std didn't." ggzilla
Its not the spring that makes it special. That simply increases pressure which is not needed. The auto pump has larger rotors, making it a high-flow pump. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes the 290zx turbo automatic (with oil cooler) is a high volume unit. The KAs already have a high volume oil pumps on them. I use KA oil pumps on all my L and Z engines. There are tens of thousands of good used ones out there in the 240zx and Hardbody trucks in junk yards. The KA oil pumps have internal rotors that are 13% longer. Quote Link to comment
