WallRocket
I can not....for the life of me...figure out how to put back together my 1979 datsun steering box. I separated the steering shaft out of the box. Can't seem to line up the gears, or have no idea how to put it back in... I have never worked with gear boxes. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Then why did you even take it apart? 1 Quote Link to comment
WallRocket
Its a sr20det build. I am a very experienced car mechanic. Just never missed with gear boxes, besides adjusting them. I figured it cant be to hard.... Quote Link to comment
WallRocket
It has to be removed to install the turbo, then put back in. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Bottom mount would still rub on steering column. You would have needed a top mount. To get it together it just kind of fits. No real tips to give. GL. Quote Link to comment
WallRocket
I had it all installed. Go look at my build status. No need for top mount. Anyone know the process? Do you line up with one side, and turn the steering wheel into the box? Quote Link to comment

jvb5577
I'll have to take a look at my manual, its for a '73 but I am sure they are the same. I was going to swap steering boxes a while ago and took a look and remember it saying.. "Do not remove" unless necessary. So I think what I am going to find is it is going to be a B***H Quote Link to comment

WallRocket
You bet. Can't thank you enough. BTW Anyone else runs into this problem. Just remove the pitman arm, and slide the shaft out from the top. Then install the steering shaft, and then put back in the shaft. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I took mine apart years ago. When I screwed the worm in it popped the plug out of the front and all the juice poured out. (groan) I did get it together again and may have removed the sector shaft to do this. It was a long time ago. Quote Link to comment
