BeachKidd
I have a 78 620 KC w/ l20b stock everything. Lately when I've been driving and take the car out of gear the idle is extremely high and will not kick down. It just started doing this and the timing is fine. Just wondering where I should start to solve this issue. Quote Link to comment
Guest Rick-rat
Is the choke opening all the way when warm? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Is the throttle cable too tight and not allowing the throttle to close all the way??? Take top of air filter. Is the choke plate closed or part closed? Yes? the choke on will usually engage the fast idle cam. No? Get a flashlight and look down the primary barrel. It will be slightly open for idle but is there any foreign object stuck in it?? Look down the secondary barrel... Is the throttle plate fully closed??? It should be Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
yes it is Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
So remove the foreign object. Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
Mike is the primary barrel on the left? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The primary barrel is the one with the choke. Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
Thank you, just took the air cleaner off and saw a link for the choke that connects to some sort of valve is not hooked up... Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
Honestly don't know how to upload pics, sorry really new to this. :hmm: Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Well in any case, if the choke is open 100% straight up, it won't cause a fast idle. If on the other hand the choke is slightly off from straight up, it will trigger the fast idle. Which part is not connected? Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
I don't see it on that diagram, but right above the number 22 is the valve that link connects to. Working on pictures Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Above #22 is the Choke Pull-off vacuum diaphragm. If its not connected, for the first 30 seconds after a cold start it will run a little rich is all that will happen. Unless of course the loose rod jams up something. Here's one for an older Datsun carb Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
Okay, I will keep looking Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
One other thing I forgot to mention is that It will slowly return to normal idling speed, but as soon as I press on the throttle it starts speeding up the idle and stays like that for a little while. Thanks for all your help so far guys. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well could be the BCDD set too sensitive. It's this thing... In the center is an adjustment screw. Usually covered with a rubber plug. Turn one or two turns counter clockwise and see if that fixes it. If not return the setting Quote Link to comment
BeachKidd
Thanks I will try that tomorrow mike. Is the link I found connected to the choke diaphragm supposed to be loose on the other end? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The link should be connected on both ends. Quote Link to comment
