kevins750
will this transmission work behind my L20 with just a bell swap, or is this elect cotrolled? If this has been answered I couldn't find it...just info on the Maxima trans.. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I would say no. This transmission is two generations removed from a 3N71B that would fit the L20B. It's not even the same as the L4N71B on the last RWD Maxima. Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
why not just go 5 speed? transmissions can be found pretty cheap for these things. Quote Link to comment
kevins750
I am 6'3" in a regular cab..standard would be a little tough 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Have to assume you already have an automatic and there is something wrong with it? Quote Link to comment
kevins750
Nothing wrong, just thought maybe little lower rpm's on freeway speed... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Rear end swap is cheaper/easier. 3.90 or 4.11 would do it Quote Link to comment
kevins750
I will probably go that route Mike... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
5-speed has lower rpms on the freeway than the 4-speed automatic. Why do you think you can't drive a stick? My dad was 6'3" and drove a 521 for 10 years. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The lowest 5th gear is the late 280zx at 0.745 or about 25.5% 4th with converter lock up in an L4N71B is 0.686 or 31.4%. Quote Link to comment
kevins750
I didn't say I couldn't drive a standard, just said it would be tough..Wouid rather leave an auto in my truck...And this particular auto I was looking at isn't a L4N and I was thinking it would have lower 4th then the older auto's... datzenmike
I'm not even sure it IS a 4 speed. Quote Link to comment
kevins750
True...If it wasn't so far away I would look at it and then at least we would have some reference points ...length, bell bolt pattern(if there is one),CPU controlled ETC.. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Why not use an S13 auto? You know it will fit the S13 engine, and the S13 wiring and ECU. Quote Link to comment

If this has been answered I couldn't find it...just info on the Maxima trans.. Figured it was for behind an L20B. I don't know if the older 3N71B L series bell will fit this newer auto. kevins750
YES it is for my L20B...I have no intention of changing my motor...I was simply asking if this transmission out of a S13 would work...I don't have a S13 motor(the picture was lifted from the internet) But the stuff doesn't seem to command big bucks so I would take a chance on this stuff( tranny) because if is cheap..I have asked this person(with the tranny for sale) he is not a "car person" he simply stated the tranny "was in a car and shifted fine" ...
