wannaby
exactly what it says started my 320 after siting for a few years ...its pushing a bit of blue and also running very crappy...also noticed black oily type goo ozzing out of the exhaust manifold to pipe connection.... any ideas...Den Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably valve seals dried up, cracked. May have even fallen off. Oil pouring down the exhaust valve guides? This a pushrod motor? Look up how to place some rope in the spark plug hole. Rotate the piston up to cram the rope against the valves and hold them in place. Remove the rocker assembly and valve springs and instal new valve guide oil seals. Have to do one cylinder at a time (actually might as well do the intakes too) on the compression stroke. datzenmike
This is an old and probably tired motor. It may reduce oil consumption. The seals and putting them in isn't much expense. May work. Quote Link to comment
wannaby
Yes original motor.speedo broke around 30,000 mi don't want to spend any dough on a rebuild.be nice to get it back on the road one day.Just for old times sake. wayno
I started my 1963 datsun L320 today, it starts hard after sitting even a month now, and after only a little while it starts quitting and running like crap, back fires out of the carb if I hit the gas, I believe that this new fuel is the issue, after it only sits for 6 months it separates and becomes worthless. I don't know what you have for gas up there, but once I use all the fuel in the line, and I started using the fuel in the tank, everything went down hill fast. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably seasonally adjusted and 10% alcohol. I bought maybe six tank fulls last year and most were in states and at Canby. I don't know what the octane rating is. Quote Link to comment
wannaby
That sounds like the same symtoms as mine....mayby ill try a bit of new gas. Den Quote Link to comment
wayno
Well it turned out that the reason my 320 was running like crap was it ran out of gas, bowl was dry, I put 5 gallons of non-ethanol premium gas in it, and it runs great again. Quote Link to comment
