Hooligan
Alright, by far not new to engines, just haven't done this on a L20. Chain is making some nice noises from the guides being worn down. Bought a new timing set. Before I do this, any tips or tricks I need to know? Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Set it at #1 TDC Compression before you start. If the chain isn't stretched, you could probably get away with just replacing the guides if you're careful. Quote Link to comment
Hooligan
Yeah I thought about doing just the guides but figured since I was gonna tear into her, might as well replace everything. Maybe the guides is the way to go Quote Link to comment
DAT510
If youre gonna take the timing cover off, replace the front seal while you're there. make sure you clean the mating surfaces too. I use brake cleaner and goo off with a scotch bright. Also, with the tension side of the guide, put the bottom bolt on first on the outer hole, then push and put the top one on. you'll see what i mean. I found it easier this way, then again I had the engine out. 1 Quote Link to comment
