Piston and Rods

During my 2.3 build I had occasion to cut some L20B/Z22 pistons off as the easiest way to get to the rods I wanted. I've always said the L series was totally over built... just look how thick that piston top is compared to the newer Z24 and KA pistons.

The KA piston is from a truck, notice the much smaller oil control ring land and how the earlier pistons are open behind the oil ring much of the way around the piston. The KA just has several small holes. I wonder if this is because some later KAs had oil squirters to cool the pistons?

Top two rod ends are KA24Es with floating pin S13 on left and truck press pin on right

Bottom: Notice how much narrower the Z24 rod on the left is from the L20B on the right.

Yeah....I noticed the difference in the thickness of the Z22 rods after they were installed on my Z24 (NPR) pistons

Only left .012....should of been around 2.5mm (total)....for stock config

Yes.... yes I did. Just read my build thread on how I plan to do this.

You are right Doug. I just assumed that all L and Z rod small ends were the same. Not so by a mile.
