I just cleaned a newly purchased head and found out that the one of the camshaft bearing bracket bolt got loose. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/06/nebydany.jpg[/img] Its a u67 and the question is...am i screwed? :-\ Do i need to replace? 620Turbo4X4 Posted August 5, 2013 Report Share Posted August 5, 2013 The factory manual states that the cam towers should never be removed. However, I have removed them from almost every datsun head I've rebuilt with no problems. Just be sure to number them if removed, as they must go back in the location they came from. You should be fine. Even if it were running like that the head bolt would have held it in place. Install a camshaft and see if it turns freely. Quote Link to comment

EricJB Posted August 6, 2013 Report Share Posted August 6, 2013 I take them off all the time as well. I have even used a set from a different head. They have a shuffle pin on the right side so they only move a bit on the left side. I put them on with the cam, start all the bolts, then pivot the left side back and forth, split the difference and torque them down. Spin the cam, and put the rockers on. Never had a problem. .
