Datsun Dude
Hi, I know that Nissan had a plant down in Mexico in the 60's. Were 411s and roadsters made or assembled there? Always have been curious about that. Cheers in advance for any knowledge on this. Quote Link to comment
Datsun Dude
Here's what I've got: http://www.datsunhistory.com/datsunhistory5.html Nissan Mexicana SA de CV came into existence in 1961, Nissan Canada was formed in 1964, and Nissan popped up in Australia in 1966. Datsuns were also manufactured outside of Japan; first in Taiwan by the Yue Loong Motor Company in 1959, then in Mexico in 1966, and in Peru in 1967. Australia also built Datsuns, but I don't have a date on that. Nissan began sales into Scandinavia and mainland Europe in the early 60's, first concentrating on countries that didn't manufacture thier own cars, then moving into places like Germany and France. Looks like Datsuns were manufactured in Mexico from 1966 going forward. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Since the 510 was coming out in 1968 and 1967 was the last "official" production run for the 411 model it would make no sense to move a production line to Mexico for the tail end of a "one more year" run. Trucks? Yes! That would make sense. Even though the Nissan records show 411 production ending in 1967, there is one "long ago" owner who reports on this site that he has a 1969 engine compartment tagged RL411, The "VIN" supports the 1969 manufacturing date. I believe that car was part of a lot built for the Okinawa market which was under US Occupation and drove under US traffic rules. Probably bought by a GI and shipped back to "The Land of the Big BX" on completion of his or her tour. Cars for Okinawa would not be manufactured in Mexico. Quote Link to comment
