620 4x4

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have had my 520 since 1985. It has absolutely been a working truck all this time. After finally finding a windshield I went ahead and did a bomb can job on it, as most of the original paint had worn off. Came out looking pretty sharp. Got comments here and there around town about that. Changed my image I guess. About a year and a half ago one of my neighbors told me of a

Datsun 4x4 that they might get that had been sitting in the blackberries for 9 years. The day came and they called me to come help out their 18yr old get it up and running. Got it going with a water pump, radiator, and a few other bits from my scrapper 78. Ran poorly although it has a fresh L18. Drive test revealed brakes were seriously sticking with rust in the hydraulics. I fell for this thing and felt I had a better home for it here as the kid did not want to work on it, and it needs everything. Electrical is a mess, rust is there but not as bad as some I have seen. I have known these folks for awhile and figured they would not get it done. They came over yesterday with title in hand and told me it was either going here or Island Recycle, aka the crusher. Spent all day yesterday freeing up the front brakes, changing the master, and am now going to hone out the rear cylinders after a huge fight getting the drums off. One of my dreams over the years, after seeing it done to another 67 exactly like mine was to shove a 4x4 chassis under it, but I like the 74. Looks good. Has 30" tires and jacked up. I like it. I think for those 4x4 folks, downsizing might be a good idea since fuel is waayy up there, so I figure it has some value to boot. Well, back to getting dirty! Can't figure out how to post a pic at this point, oh well. Jim

you have to post pics on photobucket (or another site like it), and paste them here. Bandwidth can get expensive for a small site like this.

so is yours the 5lug conversion or the 6 lug? I'm assuming this was one of the dealer conversions.
